Pre- and Post-Treatment Instructions for PhotoDerm®
Thank you for choosing The Vein Center of Virginia for your pulsed light therapy. For optimum results, your treatment must be a combined effort between you and your Vein Center treatment team. Carefully following these instructions will help optimize your final outcome.
Please refrain completely from sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning preparations for four (4) weeks before, during, and after treatment. If you expect to be exposed to strong sunlight for any length of time before, during, or after your phototherapy, protect the treated area
with a strong sunblock (SPF 25 or greater).
Bear in mind that overly dry skin may also affect the results of PhotoDermë treatments, so keep your legs moisturized before and after treatments. However, do not moisturize or put oil of any sort on your legs on treatment day.
At times you may notice a slight redness after your treatment. This is nothing to worry about, and applying A&D Ointment should correct this in a day or two. If the skin in this area turns brown, do not rub it but allow it to peel naturally. If a crust appears, apply Neosporinë antibiotic ointment to the area three (3) times a day until healed.
Do not use aspirin, Motrin®, or other anti-inflammatory drugs for two (2) weeks before and for two (2) weeks after treatment. These drugs may decrease the effectiveness of the treatment. You may use Tylenol® instead.
A warm bath or shower after a treatment is okay, but do not soak in a hot tub!
Veins treated with PhotoDerm® don't show a visible difference immediately. Please keep in mind that the treated vein will fade in time, and results usually begin to appear about four (4) weeks after your first treatment.
